87041 B&O quad door single car; 87042 B&O 2-pack.
Pullman Standard built the large batch of quad door cars for the Baltimore & Ohio in 1965. B&O classed them as M-86 and initially assigned them for loading in Parma, Ohio and Indianapolis, Indiana for destinations across the map.
87051 New York Central quad door single car; 87052 NYC 2-pack.
This batch of cars was built in 1966, classed by NYC as "104B" and initially assigned for loading by Chevy in Flint, Michigan on the Grand Trunk Western. This is another example of auto parts cars belonging to a multi-railroad pool assigned for loading (and unloading, for that matter) off home rails.
87061 Conrail (large logo) Quad Door single car, 87062 2-pack.
The first months of the Conrail merger produced a number of cars lettered with stencils pieced together from former Penn Central and Erie Lackawanna stencils. But by the summer of 1976, proper Conrail stencils were in place at the major shops and cars like this began to appear. Later years would see a refinement in the look culminating in the Conrail Quality image in the 90s.
87071 Penn Central single car, 87072 2-pack.
87071 Penn Central quad door single car, 87072 2-pack.Penn Central inherited their quad door car fleet from both New York Central and Pennsylvania. The combined PC fleet of 86 ’ boxcars was the largest in the nation, with Conrail inheriting the title after 1976. This group was assigned for loading at a Chevy plant in Flint, Michigan on the Grand Trunk Western for delivery to Chevy assembly lines across the country.
87081 Missouri Pacific “Screaming Eagle” quad door single car, 87082 2-pack. Missouri Pacific purchased 86 ’ boxcars under the auspices of MP, Texas &Pacific, and Kansas Oklahoma & Gulf subsidiaries, plus inheriting some from Chicago & Eastern Illinois. In the late 70s, as the Screaming Eagle logo began to supplant the old buzzsaw, MP was already changing the reporting marks of these subsidiary cars to MP. This paint scheme was being applied by the MoPac right up to the acquisition by Union Pacific in 1983.
87091 Union Pacific “automated rail way ” quad door single car, 87092 2-pack.This batch of cars appeared on the UP in the summer of 1964 in this paint scheme. The shield includes the word “RAILROAD ” which was standard for UP in the 60 ’s.This batch also included the small version of the reporting marks. The “automated rail way ” logo had evolved over the years with this version featuring a more playful lettering style, larger map,and “CUSHIONED LOAD ” replacing “CUSHION RIDE.” These cars were initially assigned for loading at a Chevy plant on the New York Central in Cleveland. Due to particularly complex decoration on these cars, projected MSRP for the single is $27.95,and $55.90 for the 2-pack.
87101 Pennsylvania quad door single car, 87102 2-pack. Pennsylvania received this group of quad-door cars in 1965 whereupon they were assigned to carrying Chevy body panels. GM, as a rule, preferred quad-door cars over their double door cohorts. Unlike most PRR double door cars, this batch of quad door cars had black ends (probably “car-cement” rather than black paint) and we are replicating this detail on our run.

Detroit & Toledo Shore Line received this batch of cars from Greenville early in 1970. The D&TS was just 50 miles long linking Detroit with Toledo but was double tracked and handled a large volume of traffic. Grand Trunk Western and Norfolk & Western (formerly Nickel Plate) each owned a 50% interest in the line. N&W used it to reach Detroit and GTW used it to reach Toledo. It's position gave it a vital role in the movement of auto parts. In 1981, GTW bought N&W ’s share and merged the line into its system. These cars joined the GTW fleet, some remaining in this paint scheme for close to two decades. This roadname will be available in 3 road numbers. 87121 Detroit & Toledo Shore Line single; 87122 2-Pack.
This batch of quad-door cars was delivered to Southern Railway during the Spring of 1965. They were initially assigned for loading at a General Motors plant on the Grand Trunk Western in Flint, Michigan. Southern had a number of “paper railroad ” subsidiaries and portions of the freight car fleet were allocated to these subsidiaries. This group of cars was allocated to the Cincinnatti New Orleans & Texas Pacific. The CNO&TP initials are in the top right corner of each side of
the car. This roadname will be available in 3 road numbers. 87111 Southern single ; 87112 2-Pack.
Rock Island received these quad door cars in the Summer of 1966. Auto parts traffic on the Rock Island was fairly significant with bridge traffic in addition to assembly plants located on line. Most of the “Granger Railroads” kept largely to one side or the other of a border stretching from St. Louis to Kansas City and on to Denver. C&NW and MILW for instance were to the north of the line while M-K-T and Frisco were to the south. Rock Island was the only line to have more or less equal portions on both sides of this line. Going from Minneapolis to Dallas? Rock Island was your single-line option. This roadname will be available in 3 road numbers, for $25.95 per car. 87131 single car; 87132 2-Pack.
Baltimore & Ohio received a large batch of these cars from Greenville in 1969 and 1970. Unlike B&O’s earlier batches of quad door cars, these came with unpainted natural aluminum doors and a pair of capitol dome logos on each side (one in yellow and one in blue on a yellow disk.) B&O’s auto parts fleet was lopsided in favor of quad door cars, reflecting the predominance of General Motors traffic on the line. This roadname will be available in 3 road numbers, for $25.95 per car.
87141 single car; 87142 2-Pack.
